Hello and welcome to the site!

My name is Thor Lewis. I'm a Canadian working down in California as a Sr. UX R&D Designer over at Google. It's been about ten years since I was hired there and also since I've updated my site. Quite a bit has happened over the last decade and I'll do my best to update this site to reflect all of it.

I've had the pleasure of working on some really amazing projects and I'm really honored to work with the folks that I have. Currently I'm with the Cardboard team designing some very cool things in VR. It's a fantastic new medium where we have the opportunity to give an extra dimension of usability.

Here's a quick list of what I've been up to the last few years at Google:

January 2015 - Current
Sr. R&D UX Designer for Cardboard

2014-2015
Sr. R&D UX Lead for ACME Sensor Fusion Lab

2013
UX Visual Design Lead for Material Design's data visualization effort

2010-2013
UX Visual Design Lead for 3D object scanning initiative

2010
UX Visual Design Lead for Cloud Robotics
UX Visual Design Lead for Google Body
UX Visual Design Lead for Android Datalogger

2006 - 2009
Front-end Design and Developer Lead - Enterprise, Apps, Google.org and Earth Outreach

Prior to Google I worked as a Technical Director specializing in 3D lighting and FX Animation in Vancouver, Canada. This was for a live action TV show called Don't Eat the Neighbours. It was done with human-animated puppets, and the scenes the puppets couldn't do, we did in CG. The folks I worked with on this were amazing and it was one of the best team experiences I've had to date.

On the education front, I have a degree in Computer Science and Fine Art (with distinction) from the University of Victoria. Before UVic, I completed the 3D Animation and Visual Effects program at the world renowned Vancouver Film School. My formal art education started much earlier though, as both my parents are fine artists by profession.

When I'm not working, I'm usually out surfing, doing woodwork or building my own audio gear.
